Here’s a video interview I did for my friends at the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. I even tell a joke (accompanied by some very noisy geese…)
Steven and Resonus Classics are proud to announce the release of Krebs’ Harpsichord Works Volume 5 – the penultimate volume in this monumental survey of Bach’s favourite student’s complete music for solo harpsichord.
A great review by Noel O’Regan on Early Music Review:
Hot on the heels of the new release from Delphian records, here is Handel’s sonata in G minor.
First up is the third volume of Steven’s cycle of the complete harpsichord music of Bach’s favourite student, Johann Ludwig Krebs. This wonderful music straddles the boundaries of ornate Baroque music and the more classically-minded Galant style. This third volume contains no fewer than six premiere recordings and is available directly from this site by clicking here. Volume four has already been recorded and the final two volumes will be recorded later this year.
Superstar violinst Bojan Čičić joins Steven on the Delphian label to perform Handel’s complete violin sonatas. This was a real labour of love – the music is wonderful and Steven got to be reunited with an old instrument friend – a Kirckman harpsichord made in 1756 that was part of the Finchcocks Collection. (It is now housed in Waterdown House – see “An Die Musik” above!). This recording is officially launched on February 23rd – click this link to go to the purchase page at Delphian Records.
Finally Steven was delighted to join Florilegium for the next installment (volume 3) of their survey of a truly remarkable and unique collection of flutes – “The Spohr Collection”. This wide-ranging and beautiful selection of music is played by flautist Ashley Solomon and his ensemble. This is highly recommended and available from Presto Music, among others.
We’re very proud to announce the release of Bach Harpsichord Concertos on the Resonus Classics label. The recording features Steven Devine playing the solo harpsichord and directing his friends and colleagues from the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightnement (OAE).
The sessions, held last year in St John’s Smith Square, London, features the famous concerto in D minor (BWV 1052), Concerto in D major (BWV 1054), Concerto in A Major (BWV 1055) and Steven’s new reconstruction of the D Minor Concerto BWV 1059.
Joining Steven are Magaret Faultless & Kati Debretzeni (Violins), Max Mandel (Viola), Andrew Skidmore (cello) and Christine Sticher (bass).
